Hyundai Motor launched its fourth Genesis brand model in South Korea this week, the GV80 full-size SUV, fitted with three rows of seats and a three litre diesel engine. The other Genesis models include the G70, G80 and G90 passenger cars.
The SUV is fitted with semi autonomous driving systems including a forward collision avoidance assist junction turning (FCA-JT) system which helps prevent collisions with vehicles coming from the front when turning left at intersections. It also has an electronically controlled suspension system that can preview roads and alert the driver to unstable conditions ahead using cameras and navigation systems.
The GV80 is also fitted with 10 airbags, including a central airbag that expands into the space between the driver and front passenger to help prevent head injuries.
Hyundai Motor president Lee Won-hee said the GV80 has a “differentiated design and cutting edge technology not available in existing SUV models – to satisfy consumer needs for safe and convenient driving”.
Hyundai hopes to sell 24,000 GV80 models in South Korea this year, at prices from KRW66m to KRW89m (US$57,000-$77,000) for the diesel models depending on options.
The SUV is designed to take on import models such as the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Volvo XC90.
