Hyundai Motor Group announced 200 new executive appointments this week which it says was a response to the rapid changes in the global business environment and to reinforce the group’s sustainable business structure under the management of new chairman Euisun Chung.

The company said many of the new appointments “represent the next generation of leaders” who have been recognised for their achievements and roles in the ongoing success of the group.

The biggest changes, or 37% of the new appointments, are in the research & development (R&D) department.

The top foreign executives in design and R&D departments have been replaced, including Albert Biermann who is retiring from his role as president and head of the group’s R&D division.

He will continue to serve as group executive technical advisor, based in Europe, and will be replaced by Park Jung-guk who currently heads Hyundai’s hydrogen fuel cell division.

Peter Schreyer, a former Audi designer who heads Hyundai Motor’s design department, is stepping down but will remain an adviser to the company.
