The Honda Motor/Denway Motors joint venture in China sold 18,498 cars in January, up 55.7% year on year.

Citing the car maker’s website, Reuters said Guangzhou Honda sold 9,004 Accord sedans and 2,878 Odyssey multiple purpose vehicles (minivans) last month.

The report noted that, although venture also makes smaller Fit (Jazz) cars, it did not give sales data for that model.

Guangzhou Honda made 17,736 cars in January, 17% more than a year earlier.

Reuters noted that the automaker had said earlier this year it planned to sell 260,000 cars in 2006, up 13% from 2005 and forecast revenues to rise 11% year on year to 40 billion yuan (US$4.97 billion) in 2006.
