Brilliance China Automotive Holdings’ joint venture with BMW has been approved by the Chinese government.
Majority-owned indirect subsidiary Shenyang JinBei Automotive Industry Holdings Company will be located in the city of Shenyang, Liaoning province, and use existing production facilities at Shenyang Jinbei Passenger Vehicle Manufacturing Company, a 51% Brilliance subsidiary, with capacity of 30,000 vehicles per year.
The joint venture partners plan to produce BMW’s 3 and 5 series models in China, beginning in the second half of 2003.
Brilliance said that the joint venture with BMW offers great potential for both joint venture partners since the sedans that will be produced represent one of the fastest growing product segments in the Chinese car market.
