Japanese automaker Honda Motor Company reported that its global vehicle production fell by 4.9% to 273,307 vehicles in May 2026, down from 287,498 units a year earlier. Production in Japan continued to grow, however, by 5.4% to 52,026 units, but this was more than offset by a 7% decline in overseas production to 221,281 units.

Vehicle production in North America declined slightly to 142,863 units in May, with output in the US sliding by 0.9% to 88,437 units, while production in Asia dropped by over 32% to 65,694 units, including a 35% plunge in China to 32,885 units.

Registrations in Japan rose by 4.3% to 43,087 units, with sales of mini-vehicles rising slightly to 19,102 units, while sales of other vehicles rose by 7.7% to 23,985 units.

Exports from Japan plunged by over 24% to 8,227 units in May, driven lower by a 77% plunge in shipments to North America, while exports to Europe surged by 37% to 4,916 units, and exports to Asia more than doubled to 412 units. Shipments to other markets combined dropped by almost 44% to 2,155 units.
