Honda Motor said it would extend a shutdown of its Mexican plants through 30 April and plans to furlough most US salaried workers for two weeks as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Honda began its suspension of operations in North America on 23 March and previously extended its shutdown in Canada and the United States through 1 May.

The company said the majority of its "salaried and support [workers] at Honda operations in the US will be furloughed for a two-week period".
