Hella has developed a high resolution, matrix LED headlamp which is an optional extra on the Porsche Cayenne.

Hella said “the space required for the light module had been reduced by up to 75%” compared to conventional headlamps.

They use two high resolution LED chips which generate 32,000 pixels per headlamp and each has a single electronic unit used to control the pixels.

With one control unit per two light sources in each headlamp, the supplier has developed new algorithms which allow light distribution to be calculated.

The adaptive, glare free beam control used is improved compared with earlier versions.

The new headlamps were developed and are produced in Lippstadt, Germany where the supplier is based.
