GWM said it would add production at the existing factory with capacity given only as a vague “tens of thousands Havals by 2024”.

The factory produces vehicles from SKD and CKD kits with support from the Uzbek government.

A “full process automobile production complex” and associated local parts “industry cluster” was said to be under construction.

GWM said Uzbekistan was the second largest automotive market in Eurasia and a successful example of the transition from a planned to market economy.

“The automotive market is gradually opening up and showing enormous potential,” the automaker said.

“We hope to see the first batch of localised GWM products rolled off the production line as soon as possible,” said the provincial governor.

GWM claimed it would “bring new market vitality and development opportunities to the Uzbek market with high quality automobile products.” No details were provided.
