General Motors is to plough US$127.4m in powertrain and structural components to support production of new aluminium engine blocks and components at its Bedford Casting Operations, creating around 127 future jobs.

The plant currently has around 700 employees on three shifts and produces transmission casings, converter housings, heads and small gas engine blocks used in Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles.

“This investment in the future recognises the workforce at Bedford Casting Operations” said Bedford Casting Operations plant manager, Lamar Rucker.

“It also demonstrates GM’s collaboration with our UAW and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers partners, which reflects how we continue to bring new powertrain solutions to our customers.”

Including today’s investment, GM has invested more than US$426m in the Bedford plant since 2010.

So far in 2015, GM has announced more than US$6.5bn in U.S. facility investment, creating around 3,370 new jobs and securing the positions of 15,350 employees.
