Germany’s third largest automotive parts supplier ZF Friedrichshafen is considering the possible acquisition of Volkswagen ‘s components business, the company said on Wednesday.

“So far we have assumed that the component plants were not up for sale, but should that change, we would examine that,” a spokesman told Reuters, confirming an advance report of an article in the German business weekly WirtschaftsWoche.

“We are looking at all companies that are up for sale,” the spokesman reportedly said.

Reuters noted that Volkswagen announced last week that it was planning to reorganise its components manufacturing business, and that Siegfried Goll, chief executive of the drivetrain specialist, said in mid-December that ZF was not considering any large acquisitions.
