Warning strikes by IG Metall members started at midnight Tuesday night.


IG Metall is seeking a 5% pay rise for its members. Employers are offering 1.4%.


3,000 workers protested outside Ford’s Saarlouis plant, and 1,500 DaimlerChrysler workers downed tools briefly in Rastatt and Duesselsdorf, reported Reuters.


According to AP Online, workers at BMW Leipzig also staged a short strike.


In Bavaria 1,400 workers walked out briefly at 14 companies including component makers Osram and Epcos and electronic chip manufacturer, Infineon.
