A spokesperson for the German IG Metall union has upped the stakes ahead of worker contract talks on Friday by threatening Volkswagen with work stoppages, according to dpa-AFX.
The spokesperson said the union is struggling against a much higher level of organisation at the car maker than it can achieve itself.
IG Metall regional leader, Hartmut Meine, threatened work stoppages in interviews with newspapers, if Volkswagen does not give commitments to products and investment in its six west German plants.
“If the six workforces decide not to work any more, then they won’t work any more,” he said.
