From 2008 Volkswagen models will be available with touch screen displays for operating climate controls, radio, and navigation systems.
VW’s chief designer, Walter de Silva, told Automotive News Europe that VW wants to use the touch screen system to reduce the number of buttons and knobs, and thereby also simplify the construction of the vehicle.
The new displays will only be offered on Volkswagen cars. Audi models will continue with their own system, which is a mixture of a central keyboard with some switches.
This system will continue to be developed further while Seat and Skoda cars will not get touch screens at all and will stick with traditional switches.
