Volkswagen has said that there was a 10.4% year-on-year increase in deliveries of passenger cars by the Volkswagen brand during the first three months of the year.

The brand achieved 1.23m car deliveries – a new record – in the quarter. The brand also reported record deliveries for the month of March with more than 468,000 cars handed over to customers.

“Deliveries by the Volkswagen brand have developed extremely well. Gains were particularly strong on emerging markets,” said Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand.

Volkswagen Passenger Cars first quarter sales in China (including Hong Kong) reached 429,500 units, up 18.5% on last year. First-quarter sales in India were up ten-fold on last year at 18,200 units (Skoda is a bigger brand for VW Group in India).

The brand also reported a rise in deliveries in the Central and Eastern Europe region, handing over 37,200 (up 36%) vehicles there in the Q1 period.

There was a slight positive trend in deliveries in Europe, where Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 420,400 units (up 2.9%) to customers. The brand grew deliveries in the North America region to 106,300 (up 15.5%).
