Maria Stenström (53) is to head Volkswagen passenger car sales in India and the Far East from 1 December, 2011.
She succeeds Armin Keller (50), who has been appointed the Volkswagen passenger cars brand executive director for sales to ASEAN markets.
Maria Stenström headed dealer development, volume planning and the Russian market at Volvo in Sweden before moving to France as project manager at Renault in 1992. She was in charge of UK market development at Volvo from 1994 to 1996, subsequently assuming responsibility for the South European market, and heading the European service business from 1998.
Stenström took charge of Volvo’s product offering in southern Europe from 2000 to 2003, and was then appointed head of Volvo sales in France until 2007. She then moved to head global marketing in Sweden in 2007.
In April 2011 she joined Volkswagen as head of international marketing planning.
