Speaking in an interview with Germany’s Autogazette, he said that Volkswagen AG is targeting a decline in full-year 2009 sales of 5 percent on last year, or not much below 5.92 million vehicles. An earlier forecast had a 10 percent drop.
“That is our goal, and we are confident we can achieve this,” he said.
Volkswagen has been a major beneficiary of scrappage schemes in Europe – especially Germany – which have helped lift sales of its small cars, in particular. It is also doing well in Asia-Pacific vehicle markets, especially China.
