Worldwide deliveries by the Volkswagen Group for the first eight months of the year rose 13.4% to 4.7m vehicles, outperforming the global automotive market for both the month and year to date, it said.
“We are very pleased with developments in the first eight months of this year. Our good delivery situation is explained by our young, innovative and environmentally-friendly model range. This year alone we are bringing over 70 new models to market,” group sales chief Christian Klingler said. “Growth on world markets has, however, lost momentum in recent months. The global economy and international automobile markets still present risks, so we remain cautious.”
Chinese deliveries rose 41% to 1.29m vehicles and Indian sales doubled to 26,000. US sales were up 22.1% to 239,300 (195,900) units.
Europe sales were up just 1.4% to 2.2m in a market off 2%. Russia sales rebounded 21% to 79,800.
But the German home market contracted 28.7% to 678,600 vehicles.
Audi sales worldwide were up 17.9% to 726,600. Seat crept up 11% to 231,100.
