VW Commercial Vehicles’ chief executive, Stephan Shaller, has said he is expecting the division to set a new sales record this year.
Schaller told auto motor und sport that VW Commercial Vehicles achieved sales growth of 10% in the first half of the year and that he hopes to exceed this in the full year. This would mean sales would rise to around 480,000 units. In 2006 VW Commerical Vehicles sold 440,000 trucks. This was the best ever annual sales level.
In the first three quarters of the year, the brand delivered 354,000 vehicles, an increase of 10.8% compared to a year ago.
Schaller said further growth is expected from the launch of a new pick-up. “The model goes on sale at the beginning of the next decade in South America and will then come to western Europe. No other European manufacturer has a vehicle in this segment, other than perhaps Land Rover with the open Defender,” said Schaller.
Scahller is expecting strong sales volumes from the new pick-up. “We are expected a minimum annual sales volume of the ‘Robust’ pick-up to be at least six figures,” he said.
