Sales of Volkswagen commercial vehicles rose 9.6% to 214,200 in the first six months of 2006 helped by solid demand for the new LT and Crafter models, the automaker said on Monday.

“We achieved the best result in terms of first half deliveries in our history,” VW commercial vehicle’s head of sales and marketing, Harald Schomburg, said in a statement cited by Reuters.

The figures represent a slowdown in growth in the second quarter however, as VW commercial vehicles deliveries rose 11.4% to 99,455 units in the first three months of the year, the news agency noted.
