More than 3m Volkswagen brand passenger cars were delivered in the first half year, a new record.
Christian Klingler, board member for sales and marketing said that for the first time in the company’s history. A total of 3.07m vehicles were sold globally, an increase of 3.8% over the same period last year. In June VW delivered 514,900 cars, up 1.1%.
He added, however, that the situation on global markets will „remain challenging in the second half of the year and will keep us very much on our toes”.
VW sold 864,100 cars on the overall European market in the first six months, of which 451,300 were in Western Europe, excluding Germany. In its home market the brand delivered 285,700 vehicles, up nearly 1%.
Deliveries in Asia-Pacific grew 16.8%, with the brand handing over 1.50m vehicles – 1.39m in China (incl. Hong Kong). However sales in North America fell more than 8% to 282,600 with the US market declining 13.4% to 179,100. In South America deliveries from January to June fell by 21% to 317,300.
