Volkswagen will produce 135,000 of the new version of its top-selling Golf model this year, Dow Jones reported, citing company executives.

The report said VW will in September launch the latest version of the Golf, the company’s single most important new product which, in 2002, accounted for more than 15% of the company’s car sales.

VW will be simultaneously ramping up production of the Golf at factories in Wolfsburg and Mosel, Germany and in Brussels, aiming to reach full capacity by early in the second quarter, Dow Jones said.

According to the report, VW said the new version of the Golf will have a higher profit margin than the old one but didn’t give figures.
