“We have already delivered more vehicles after 11 months than during the whole of last year. That is an outstanding achievement, particularly in view of the continuing difficult situation on some European markets”, sales chief Christian Klingler said on Friday (14 December). “Despite this year’s new delivery record we are already preparing for a very challenging year in 2013.”
European sales so far this year have inched up 0.7% to 3.4m. Minus Germany, western Europe sales declined 6% to 1.71m but home market sales rose 3.4% to 1.1m. There was growth in central and eastern Europe – 19.4% to 590,800 cars. Russian sales rose almost 43% to 290,100.
North American sales rose 26.1% to 757,300 (600,700) units, of which 534,000 (+33.9%) were delivered in the US. South American volume rose 8% to 923,800 with Brazil (709,000; +9.8%) the largest market.
Asia-Pacific sales were up 19.5% to 2.86m with 2.53m (+20.2%) delivered in China. Indian sales rose only 3.3% to 104,000.
