Volkswagen Group delivered 2.16m vehicles in the first quarter of 2012, up 9.6% year on year, and passing the 2m mark for the first time in a Q1. Record March deliveries rose 12.5% to 862,700.

European Q1 sales rose 3.2% to 937,000 with sales off 4.7% to 507,100 in western Europe (excluding Germany up 5.7% to 282,400) offset by strong growth in central and eastern regions where volume rose 35.1% to 147,400 units.

Asia/Pacific deliveries rose 16.8% to 726,100 with China up 15.6% to 548,500 and India up 21.6% to 34,100.

North America sales rose 24.5% to 179,100 (143,900) and US volume was up 34% to 124,400.
