Volkswagen has said it is conducting an internal audit after a magazine reported that a former Skoda board member was accused of taking bribes from suppliers.

The company said that it was conducting its own internal audit on Helmuth Schuster, who left the company June 15.

The German news-weekly Focus reported earlier this week that Schuster was forced to leave amid allegations he had taken bribes from suppliers.

The company had no comment on the claim.
