German new commercial vehicle registrations rose 16% in September to 27,240 units, according to the German Automotive Industry Association (VDA).


Year-to-date sales of commercial vehicles are up 13% to 224,200 units.


Heavy trucks have seen even stronger growth. Demand for trucks over six tonnes (excluding buses) was up 40% in September to 10,670 units. Of those 6,190 were over 16 tonnes, up 24% on a year earlier.


Year-to-date demand is up 15% to 74,100 units. 49,100 of those were over 16 tonnes (up 16% on a year earlier).


Bus demand was up 36% to 640 units in September, bringing the year-to-date figure to 4,300 buses sold (+13%).

Total commercial vehicle exports totalled 25,540 units, down 4%, while production fell 1%to 38,230 units.


Year-to-date German commercial vehicle production is up 4% to 314,200 units.
