Volkswagen and Audi are both interested in the lightweight vehicle technology developed for the future Porsche Panamera coupe.

On the sidelines of the Los Angeles motor show, Porsche development head Wolfgang Dürheimer told Automobilwoche that Porsche and VW would work closely together in certain research areas, such as light weight technology, to help bring costs down for all group partners.

Volkswagen and Porsche already cooperate to build the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne sports utility vehicles while the two companies are developing hybrid drive technology together.

Volkswagen will assemble the body for the Panamera, as it currently does for the Cayenne.
