Sberbank CEO German Gref has said the German government could this week decide on approving automaker Opel’s acquisition by his bank and Magna as the latter was reported to have improved its offer.

“The decision may be made even this week,” Gref told news agencies.

Several reports said Magna and Sberbank had revised their Opel bid, offering EUR350m down and EUR150m in convertible bonds later. They had previously offered EUR100m on signing the deal and EUR400m in convertible loans.

GM is reportedly still talking with Magna-Sberbank and rival investment group RHJ International over the Opel takeover.
