Russian car manufacturer GAZ is interested in acquiring Chrysler, according to a German news magazine.
The two companies are not unknown to one another. Last year GAZ bought an assembly line from Chrysler, and ‘borrowed’ staff to help install it.
Along with the equipment, GAZ acquired full production and sales rights for the previous generation Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Stratus models in Russia and other former CIS countries. It has plans to build up to 65,000 cars a year.
Last year GAZ acquired British van manufacturer LDV.
GAZ produces the Volga car and several van models and is based in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.
