The three BMW Group brands all set sales records last year, with Rolls-Royce achieving over 1,000 sales for the first time.


Worldwide, 1,500,678 vehicles were delivered, up 9.2% year on year.


BMW brand sales grew 7.7% to 1,276,793 while Mini was up 18.5% to 222,875. Rolls-Royce sales rose 25.5% to 1010.


As usual, the 3-series was the most popular model line, accounting for 37% of sales. Volume was up 9.2% to 555,219 units.


The USA was the largest market for BMW and Mini models last year, taking 335,840 cars, up 7.1%.

German sales, however, fell 4% to 284,523 units.


“Here, the high level of the previous year was not maintained, because of the increase in VAT and the uncertainty caused amongst consumers by discussions about CO2. Nonetheless, the group has done better in Germany, where the decline was 4.2%, than the market as a whole (-9.2%),” BMW said.


United Kingdom sales rose to 173,685 from 153,957 and Italy (10.9%), Spain 72,849 (15.6%) and France (23.1%) also posted healthy rises.


China grew 41.9% to 51,588 units, Russia was up 54.5% to 14,686 and Indian sales were up to 1,387 from 257in 2006.
