Porsche is planning to build a new paint facility at its headquarters in Zuffenhausen. Representative from the Porsche construction department today briefed the committee for the environment and technology in a meeting of the Stuttgart municipal council on the company’s plans.

Porsche will invest approximately 200 million euros in the project.
The new facility is to be built on the Dürr AG site as a direct extension of Porsche plant 1, parallel to the embankment located there. Porsche acquired the site in spring this year.
It is planned that construction will commence in the autumn of 2008, with operations to begin in 2011.
Porsche said that capacity is planned at 170 vehicles a day on a two-shift operation basis. However, the new painting plant is designed so that it can also be run in a three-shift operation.

Porsche AG Chief Executive Dr Wendelin Wiedeking said: “This decision will further guarantee not only our growth curve, but also a considerable element of the agreement on safeguarding the site for Zuffenhausen which was entered into between the Board and the Works Council in July 2005. For one thing, this means that jobs are safeguarded on a long-term basis, and for another, that the preconditions are also created for the manufacture of a premium vehicle like the 911 in Stuttgart in the future.”
