Porsche is expecting the launch of the Panamera in 2009 to drive its global volumes up and achieve an annual sales volume of 200,000 cars, with US sales playing an important role.

An executive told the Börsen-Zeitung newspaper that the company is expecting to sell 20,000 Panameras in its first year of sales, around 40% of which will go to the US.

According to Reuters, Porsche sold almost 34,000 cars in the US in 2005 and its sales there were up 22.3% in the first four months of this year to 12,458 units.

The four-door Panamera is expected to appeal to the ageing population in the US, according to Peter Schwarzenbauer, head of Porsche in North America.
