The company has worked with the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer since 2002 in the development and manufacture of powertrain systems and components and supplies the transfer case for the Cayenne SUV.

Porsche also commended nine other suppliers for outstanding performance in fiscal year 2005/06: Thyssen-Krupp Automotive Systems (Bochum), Lear Corporation (Böblingen), Conti-Tech Kühner (Oppenweiler), HS Genion (Krailling), SUSPA Holding (Altdorf), Arvin-Meritor Emissions Technologies (Augsburg), REGE Motorenteile (Hörselberg/Eisenach), APL Automobil-Prüftechnik (Landau) and Kühne & Nagel, (Frankfurt/Main).

Porsche president and CEO Wendelin Wiedeking, emphasised to 330 guests in the customer centre in its Leipzig plant just how important top quality cooperation between Porsche and its suppliers is. “We can only be successful in defending our leading position if we build vehicles that are better than those of our competitors. That means that every part is important, no matter how small it is.”

Wiedeking said reliability of suppliers was a key success factor: “Our customers expect premium vehicles and have zero tolerance for defects. That is why Porsche only considers those who are prepared to deliver top performance as being worthy of consideration as a supplier. We recognise excellent partners each year with the Porsche Supplier Award – as the standard for all the rest.”

The challenges will be even greater in future, the Porsche CEO added, as the automaker builds up to the 2009 launch of the Gran Turismo Panamera.
