Porsche has said that reports that it will launch a diesel version of the Cayenne by the middle of next year are speculation and that it has not yet decided whether to offer a diesel version of the car.
According to Automobilwoche, a Porsche spokesperson said that Porsche is still considering the market situation. “A decision has not yet been reached.”
The spokesperson did say there was pressure in certain markets to offer such an option. The London congestion charge, for example, will penalize high fuel consumption vehicles and offering a diesel would be one way to get around this.
Porsche has threatened legal action against the Greater London Authority (GLA) because almost all its cars fall into the upper tax band that will be penalized most.
A diesel version has also appeared more likely to analysts since it announced it would increase its stake in Volkswagen and intensify collaboration. Volkswagen could easily supply Porsche with an appropriate diesel engine.
