VW CEO Martin Winterkorn’s ambitious plans for Porsche include new models and at least a doubling of sales, according to media reports.
Winterkorn told Germany’s Manager Magazin Porsche is considering a vehicle positioned below its current entry level Boxster and “a little brother” for the Cayenne SUV which might be called the Cajun.
UK magazine Autocar said the ‘baby Boxster’ will be based on the VW Bluesport and will be sold in both roadster and coupe forms.
“The important thing is that Porsche is again taking a leadership position in terms of advanced technology and innovation,” Winterkorn told the German magazine.
He ruled out anything like the VW-Porsche model sold in the 1970s saying: “This is something we will never again make. We must keep a Porsche a Porsche.”

By GlobalDataPorsche was aiming for 150,000 sales a year by 2012 or 2013 and 200,000 by 2018. This year, it expects to sell around 75,000 vehicles.
Winterkorn also admitted that VW group’s plans to overtake Toyota by 2018 as the world’s leading carmaker had been made more difficult as it had to incorporate both Porsche and Suzuki into its operations.
“We know how ambitious our goals are,” he said. “All this won’t happen automatically.”
