Opel is to add a third shift at its Eisenach plant ‘mid-year’ due to high demand for its products. The plant makes the Corsa and Adam models.
The additional shift will also result in the addition of 400 new jobs.
The news came as Eisenach plant director Elvira Tölkes played host to the US Ambassador to Germany, John B. Emerson.
“Opel is the only manufacturer that not only developed two small cars in Germany, but that also builds them here. This gives our plant excellent prospects for the future and is also an acknowledgement of the employees who set standards in quality and productivity here in Eisenach,” said Tölkes.
Opel aims to increase market share in Germany to 10% by 2022 and to 8% in Europe, with its renewed small cars playing an important role in that plan. The brand is also launching its new City Car, the Karl (Vauxhall Viva in UK) in Europe this year. That model is made in Korea.
