German vehicle manufacturers are looking to increase sourcing from the US dollar zone to improve their natural hedging at a time when they are increasing sales there and the value of the dollar is low.

According to Automobilwoche, Mercedes is planning to increase sourcing from the dollar zone for the new M-Class and G-Class models due to go into production at the end of 2010.

Audi is hoping to increase US sourcing for the next generation Q7 SUV.

Volkswagen’s supervisory board meeting at the end of this week is expected to discuss the dollar problem, too. The automaker is reportedly eyeing locations for a new plant in the region.

Caspar Baumhauer, chairman of supplier WET Automotive, told Automobilwoche that German manufacturers are him to try and increase the proportion of parts produced in North America.
