Volkswagen has named Ludger Fretzen (45) CEO of Volkswagen-Audi España effective 1 September. He is currently head of product marketing for Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand in Wolfsburg. He is moving to Spain to succeed Juan Manuel Baselga (61), who is taking retirement. 

Fretzen joined the Volkswagen Group in 1991 and became VW sales manager for Scandinavia in 1993, moving to group sales management in 1996. He was made responsible for product strategy in the marketing division in 1998 and has headed global product marketing since 2000. Luca de Meo (43), director of marketing, VW group and VW Passenger Cars, will take on these duties in addition to his other responsibilities.

Baselga has been with the group since 1987, initially heading central marketing and exports from Spain at Seat in Martorell. In 1991 he moved to Volkswagen-Audi España as sales director for Spain and was appointed CEO in 1993. He headed Seat sales in Spain from 1996 to 2004 before returning to the role of CEO at Volkswagen-Audi España in January 2005.
