Germany’s new car market could fall 6.5% to around 2.9m vehicles next year from an expected 3.1m this year, said the German Federation for Motor Trades and Repairs (ZDK).

The federation also anticipates used car sales next year to be static at somewhere between 6.9m and 7m while aftermarket sales should also remain about the same.

ZDK represents primarily car dealers and mechanics, many of whom depend more on selling or servicing used cars rather than on the slowly shrinking new car market.

With the average age of cars increasing because of better build quality, there is increasing demand for replacement parts.
