DaimlerChryser is voluntarily recalling 11,800 Mercedes-Benz R-Class models worldwide, according to auto motor und sport magazine’s website.

3,800 cars produced between 3 January and 4 March 2006, will be recalled because they have faulty seat-belt connections in the second row of seats. The seats will be replaced completely.

In Germany Mercedes-Benz has written directly to owners rather than use the official recall procedures through the national transport office (Kraftfahrtbundesamt).

A further 8,000 R350 models are being recalled worldwide because a cable has been fitted incorrectly. This could potentially cause a drop in voltage and drain the battery if the car is left standing for any length of time. This affects cars assembled between 7 August 2005 and 15 February 2006.
