Mercedes-Benz posted double-digit growth in the first quarter of 2011 as sales rose 12.7% to to 280,552 units worldwide, boosted by high growth in Germany and China.
Sales and marketing chief Joachim Schmidt said: “Based on our success in many markets and numerous new products, we want to achieve a new sales record in 2011.”
Sales of the brand rose 7.7% in March to 118,357 passenger vehicles.
Q1 China sales rose 78.2% to a record 42,990 units and by 80.4% to 15,242 units in March. Mercedes-Benz also set new quarterly records in Russia and India while sales were up 41.6% in Brazil. High growth rates were also achieved in Taiwan, South Korea and Australia.
US Q1 sales rose 8.4% to 53,346.
