Mercedes-Benz is heading for an annual production total of more than 1.49m units this year, a new record.
From January to November 2013, Mercedes-Benz sold 1,322,500 passenger cars (+10.7%), and has reached the previous year’s sales volume already.
Mercedes highlighted the performance of the new S-Class, which has been available in Europe since the end of July, in China since the end of September, and in the USA since mid-October. It said Mercedes-Benz has launched its flagship model in the top three S-Class markets in less than twelve weeks making it the launch of the S-Class the fastest market launch in the company’s history. It also said that was only possible because the production of the luxury sedan was ramped up in record time in its home plant of Sindelfingen.
Mercedes also said that it has added special shifts to manage its global production base for maximum model mix flexibility in meeting demand.
It also said that it is planning major investment in Germany and at international plants. A fifth model line will be added to the US manufacturing facility in 2015. Some reports suggest that Mercedes is considering adding a second plant in North America.
