After double-digit growth nearly every month last year, Mazda Motor Europe has begun the new calendar year with sales of 24,400 units, down 2.3% year on year.
Even so, five markets reported record or near-record results last month, led by Ireland, which set all-time records for volume, at 1,267 units, up 46%, and for predicted share of the passenger car market, of 2.7%.
Portugal had a record January for volume, at 387 units, and achieved its highest market share, estimated at 1.8%. Russia had its best January on record for volume, at 2,500 units, up 56% year-on-year.
France saw the best January volume since 1991, at 1,210 units, and its highest January market share in over 14 years, estimated at 0.75%.
Sales in Denmark were up 35% and Sweden up 22% compared with January last year. Scandinavian sales of about 1,200 units in January were up 22%. Combined sales in the Czech Republic and Slovakia were up 27%, and The Netherlands was up 4% year-on-year.
