Mazda boosted retail sales in Europe 13% year on year in 2006. December volume of 20,400 vehicles was up 12.4%.


Sales of 303,600 vehicles in 2006 was the third highest calendar year volume (after 1990 and 1991) the brand has achieved.


Sales rose in 13 countries and to record levels in four, the automaker said.


The UK saw record retail volume of 50,100 units, up 6.8%, and predicted market share of 1.8%. Russia also saw records for volume, at 32,300 units, up 53%, and for estimated market share of 3.5%.


Spain saw records for volume and predicted market share – at 19,000 units, up 24%, and 1.0% respectively – as did Portugal, where Mazda had a record year for volume, at almost 4,200 units, up 20%, and for market share estimated at 1.6%.
