The start of production of the SUV version of the Golf will be delayed by three months from August 2007 to November 2007, reported Automobilwoche.
VW chief Wolfgang Bernhard has already delayed the launch of the Eos cabriolet from spring this year to the autumn because of concerns about the quality of the roof system. Quality concerns are also thought to be at the root of the Golf SUV delay, reports the paper.
Bernhard has made quality a pet subject. When Automobilwoche asked him about competing with Toyota he noted that Toyota’s success is down to quality and efficiency. But Volkswagen can probably outperform Toyota in offering more emotional models and so Bernhard’s pet new model project is therefore the Golf-based coupe, the Scirocco, which is expected to be built alongside the Eos in Setubal, Portugal.
