Getrag has built its millionth dual clutch transmission. It claimed the six-speed dual clutch (DCT) unit, which started serial production (for Ford) in April 2010 was the fastest to a million units in the industry so far.

“The success of Getrag’s dual clutch transmissions is based on the combination of convenience, efficiency and a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions,” the supplier said.

“This goes to show we went for the right product from the start,” said Ernie DeVincent, platform director in charge of the 6DCT250 at Getrag. “As of today, the 6DCT250 is still the transmission architecture with the fastest growing number of units produced.

“We currently have orders from four major OEMs for this product.”

Getrag will also launch production at its Chinese plant in Nanchang during 2013. The transmission will then be produced on three continents.

Getrag is also developing the next generation 7DCT300 version. Both six- and new seven-speed vaersions will be offered in parallel to OEM customers.
