There are signs that the German truck market is picking up, with registrations up 7% in September to 29,090 units.


According to the latest data available from the German automotive industry trade association, the Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA), truck production was up even more strongly to 42,770 units (+14%), thanks to a 15% increase in exports to 29,250 units.


In the first nine months of the year truck registrations were up 9% to 245,000 units. Production was up 16% to 362,200 while exports were up 20% to 254,300.


In September demand for light trucks (under 6 tonnes) was up 15% to 18,290 units, while heavy trucks over 16 tonnes were up 20% to 7,360 units. The 6-16t market was down 35% to 2,965 units to bus demand was down 25% to 475 units.
