General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen have announced revisions to their global alliance. The plan to co-develop European D segment vehicles is cancelled, while there will be new models in the B and C segments, new engines and possible co-operation in Latin America.
The firms have issued a joint statement which notes that “consistent with the terms of the Master Agreement dated February 29, 2012, the Alliance partners have signed definitive agreements related to three of the initial vehicle projects as well as to the purchasing joint venture”.
There is no mention of the proposed pooling of resources to co-develop the successors to the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, Peugeot 508, Citroën C5 and Citroën DS5. GM and PSA now say that they will be working on the following projects:
- A joint programme for an Opel/Vauxhall C-MPV (Zafira Tourer successor) and a C-CUV for the Peugeot brand (5008 successor)
- A joint MPV programme for the B-segment for both Groups (Meriva and C3 Picasso successors)
- The co-development of an upgraded low CO2 B-segment platform for Opel/Vauxhall and PSA’s next generation of cars in Europe and other regions
No model names are mentioned but the first vehicles are to be launched in 2016.
Two other new initiatives have also been announced:
