A former DaimlerChrysler employee has been found guilty of corruption and breach of trust, according to the Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper. The former head of construction and building works at the company has been fined EUR100,000 and sentenced to a year on parole.

The man, who has worked for a number of different companies across Germany in a similar capacity, was convicted of accepting EUR172,900 in bribes from business partners between 2000 and 2003.

The conviction follows a raid on Mercedes-Benz’s Bremen facility in June 2006, and searches of several workers’ homes. According to Reuters, an investigation into possible breach of trust and bribery then targeted 11 company staff and employees of construction firms suspected of charging the Bremen plant for work conducted on Mercedes-Benz staff members’ private homes.

A similar case emerged at the Sindelfingen plant last year.
