Fiat has said it would provide technical support to Tata if its Indian partner bids for Land Rover and Jaguar.

“If Tata is interested in Jaguar and Land Rover, we are ready to provide technical support,” a Fiat spokesman told Reuters at the Frankfurt show.

The news agency noted that Fiat chief executive Sergio Marchionne had earlier joked: “For completely different reasons, we are interested in both.”

Fiat chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo last weekend told Reuters that the Italian automaker was not interested in the two British-based brands.

Tata’s Indian rival Mahindra & Mahindra has also been reported as considering buying the two Ford-owned brands.
