Growth in Asia and South America helped Volkswagen increase first half vehicle sales 7.8% to 3.09m units.

VW brand sales rose 7.4% to 1.8m vehicles during the period, while Seat slipped 1.8% to 222,000 cars, according to a Reuters report.

Bentley sales rose 19% to over 5,600 vehicles while Lamborghini was up 30% to more than 1,200 units.

The report said growth came almost entirely from emerging markets in Asia/Pacific, where group sales grew 20.9% to 502,000 units, and South America, where the company sold 27.7% more vehicles at 339,000.

Strong performances in key markets China and Brazil boosted the two regions, Reuters added.
